These 7 Easy Upgrades Will Make Your Bathroom Feel Like a Spa

Woman Getting Married – Unique ideas for wedding venues, wedding decorations, wedding dresses, and more!

Ever since I was little, one of my favorite things to do was take a bubble bath and put a mask on and pretend I was “enjoying a spa day.” Which is, like, normal for a 30-year-old…kind of weird for a 7-year-old. LOL. But basically I never outgrew wanting to recreate that experience, and still to this day I’m forever on a quest of making my bathroom feel like a spa escape.
Like some of you, we live in a city apartment, and the bathrooms, err, don’t always feel like a zen zone. They need a wee bit more work than others, which is something I’ve really tried to focus on lately when it comes to decorating. I think the bathroom is one of those rooms in a home that can be overlooked, especially if you live in a rental. But I think it’s super important to make the most of each room, no matter if it’s your forever home or a place you’ll only be in for a couple of year..

But I think it’s super important to make the most of each room, no matter if it’s your forever home or a place you’ll only be in for a couple of years.

We’ve been in our current apartment a few years now, and some of our rooms have been feeling a bit drab lately. In particular our bedroom, living room, and master bathroom just felt like they needed a change, so I decided to do a bit of a refresh. A few additions and tweaks later, and all of a sudden each room is a place that makes me happy every time I enter them. In the bathroom the changes were simple: Plush towels, candleholders, a comfy robe, luxurious bath products, and the biggest addition…a statement wall using temporary wallpaper that we also put in our bedroom. And guess what? It was shockingly easy to do!

This is where your wedding registry comes in. It doesn’t take a ton of work to refresh a space, it just takes a few key products to turn a room from blah to cozy and chic. So we’ve partnered with one of my FAVORITE stores, Pottery Barn, to put together our list of must-haves for a relaxing bathroom, below, and what you should consider adding to your wedding registry. Now if only you could hire a live-in masseuse…

1. Get a Set (or Two) of Plush Towels

This is one of THE most important things you can add to your wedding registry. Turkish cotton is my favorite, and these Pottery Barn Classic Bath Towels are absorbent, fluffy and cozy. You can never go wrong with white towels, though if you’re looking for something different, light grey is my second favorite color. Register for two sets of towels for each bathroom in your home.

2. Add a Robe to Your Registry

This is how it normally happens: I tell my husband he’s going to love wearing something, and he will reluctantly try it on with serious doubt. Then can you guess what happens next? You can barely get him to take it off! This definitely happened with our robes. Now on a Sunday morning you can catch the two of us hanging out in our cotton robes like we’re waiting for our massage appointments. I love that this Pottery Barn Organic Spa Robe is made from organic cotton and features a full shawl collar. I would definitely add two to your registry so you can both enjoy lounging around in them.

3. Candles, Candles, Candles

I recently started lighting candles in my bathroom before every shower (morning OR evening), and it has made such a difference. What was a boring routine now feels like a mediative experience, and it gives me an excuse to stay in the shower or bath a bit longer before starting the day. TIP: When it comes to candleholders, don’t be afraid to go big in your bathroom. Placing a medium or large lantern (like this bronze Malta Latern, pictured above) alongside a smaller one can tie your bathroom together and add one big beautiful glow to a room that is usually overly bright.

4. Artfully Display Your Favorite Bath Products

Organization is definitely key when it comes to creating a neat and relaxing mood in your bathroom. Having products strewn everywhere is not going to be the transportive experience you want it to be. I love displaying everything from bath sponges to cotton balls and Q-tips in these PB Classic Glass Canisters. Put them on your countertop or on a wall or leaning shelf like we did, and all your favorite products will be in one place.

5. Give Your Walls Some Love

Whether it’s a fresh coat of paint or temporary wallpaper like we used for our statement wall (this design is called ‘Branches’ by Tempaper), you can bring a whole new dimension to your bathroom with a pop of color.

6. Try a Dry Body Brush

I think every bride-to-be should have a dry body brush. I started using one right before our wedding and it totally transformed my skin (particularly my arms!) and made me feel amazing. You can read all about the benefits of dry-brushing here, but the gist of it is to always brush before you shower (ideally in the morning) and in an upward motion toward your heart. I do this after I light my candles and wait for the shower to heat up. This is the one I use: Rengöra Dry Body Brush.

7. Indulge in Great Bath and Body Products

The two bath essentials I’m currently obsessing over are Malin + Goet’z Bergamot Body Wash (which you can use in the shower or bath. It has a magical smell and also makes your skin soooo soft) and Boscia’s Luminizing Black Mask. You will look insane wearing this mask, but trust us it works! (Bonus points if you put it on then go scare your partner with it). I finish with Dr. Alkaitis Soothing Gel and Nourishing Treatment Oil on my face (the only products I can consistently use that don’t make me breakout), followed by Skinceuticals Sheer Physical Sunscreen in the a.m. At night I’ll apply Sunday Riley’s Good Genes over the oil as a treatment. Lather, rinse, repeat! 🙂
