How Will Grandma Get There? Villa Woodbine is located in Coconut Grove and is less than a mile away from several hotels including the Ritz Carlton Coconut Grove and the Courtyard Marriott Coconut Grove. It is located about 20 minutes to the Miami International Airport.
Party On! The music must stop and breakdown must begin by 11 p.m. No exceptions.
Villa Woodbine was designed by famed Miami architect Walter De Garmo, who was known for his Mediterranean-Renaissance style and designed such prominent buildings as the Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove and even assisted in the design of Vizcaya. His architectural style is noted for the open air designs of central courtyards and large loggias with Spanish arches.
Originally built for Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boyd of Appleton, Wisconsin (and owners of the Appleton Paper Company), Villa Woodbine was used as the family’s winter residence, and the area where it was built later became known as “Millionaire’s Row”, with such notable neighbors as the Woolworth’s.
Villa Woodbine stayed in the family until the 1950’s, but the new owners stayed under the radar until 1961, when an issue of Life magazine revealed it was the home in which the Bay of Pigs invasion was purportedly planned. It is now owned and operated by the Bill Hansen Catering company, one of Miami’s most sought after caterers.
Woman Getting Married Says:
I grew up in Coconut Grove so I know just how special and beautiful this area is. In fact, I don’t think I’ve seen a prettier neighborhood anywhere in the country. I love Coconut Grove as a venue location because it’s super convenient for out-of-town guests (they can walk everywhere) and great hotel options are close to this venue. This venue is also extremely charming and brides rave about the service and catering (it’s definitely one of the best in Miami). If you’re looking for a late night venue this is not your spot as the stop time of 11 p.m. is strict due to a zoning ordinance, but if you’re looking for a unique and interesting venue and are willing to take the party down the block to your hotel afterwards, then this wedding venue should be on the list of all Miami brides.
