Woman Getting Married – Unique ideas for wedding venues, wedding decorations, wedding dresses, and more!

Not only am I completely in love with this gorgeous D.C. wedding, but I happen to be friends with the bride, Amanda, who is one of my absolute favorite people I’ve met in the past few years. Being the hilarious, sweet, and all-around radiant/awesome person she is, she has definitely met her match with her groom Clark.
The funny thing is is that even if I DIDN’T know this couple, I feel like their personalities would still come through these wedding photos, which were so beautifully captured by Cynthia Shipp Photography. Amanda and Clark’s love definitely shines through in their wedding photos, as does the love they share for their family and friends. Can we also talk about the fact that Amanda had her brother be her “Man of Honor”?! We love that!

Can we also talk about the fact that Amanda had her brother be her “Man of Honor”?! We love that!

From the venue to her great advice to other brides, Amanda was kind enough to share a few details from their wedding day, below. We are so happy for you, Amanda and Clark, and are beyond thrilled we get to share your amazing wedding photos! Congrats!!

Why did you choose your wedding venue? Did you have a hard time finding it?

Since Clark and I were living in Santa Monica and planning for a DC wedding, we sent my parents (who live locally) to do the first round of visits for us. After that, we flew to DC for a long weekend and did some very intense venue searching. However, it wasn’t a hard decision for us. There’s just something special about The Hay Adams. It also didn’t hurt that it has the most incredible view in all of DC. I had never wanted a “hotel wedding” but we were so blown away by the food, the service, the history and the beauty of The Hay, that we knew it was the perfect place for our wedding. Alison Okobi, Director of Catering, at The Hay Adams is the most amazing human on earth. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her and the service at The Hay.

What were you MOST nervous about during the wedding planning process, and how did that ultimately turn out?

I was really stressed out about the pictures. I did not want to spend an obscene amount of time between the ceremony and cocktails taking photos. That said, I wanted to make sure that we were able to capture all of the photo combinations that we wanted. I worked with our photographer, Cynthia, to make sure we got every important shot in a very short amount of time. When we got our photos back, my sister-in-law referred to Cynthia as a “ninja” because she got so many incredible shots during the reception and we hardly even noticed her.

What was your favorite moment from your wedding?

Every moment! If I had to pick one, it would be walking down the aisle to Clark. The ugly tears were flowing. A close second is my entire family screaming/singing Bruce Springtsteen’s “Rosalita” to close out the night.

What advice would you give to brides planning their wedding now?

Try not to be a psycho and micromanage everything – you have to delegate. People are happy to help and it will make your life easier! Oh, and try to enjoy the planning. My mom and I had so much fun planning every detail of the wedding and that’s a time that I’ll treasure forever.
