The Worst Wedding Advice I Ever Received

As soon as you get engaged people LOVE to share unsolicited advice. A lot of is great and super helpful, such as recommendations for photographers people have used or great websites to buy used wedding decor. What’s not so great is when people decide to give terrible, horrible advice to couples planning a wedding. This advice can range from weird to just downright dumb. Couples getting married recently took to Reddit to share the WORST advice they’ve received while planning their wedding.

DO YOUR OWN HAIR/MAKEUP

“You’re so good with makeup- why are you hiring a makeup/hair artist?”

MORE GUESTS = MORE GIFTS

“The more people you invite, the more money you’ll get.”

Trust me, I’ve done the math and the amount spent vs. amount received does NOT match up lol

YOUR SPOUSE DOESN’T MATTER

“F**k what he wants, you’re the bride” when I used to talk to my mother…What? So its not his big day too?

DON’T DO IT

“Run.” Said to me by my boss today when I told him I would be getting married in 5 days.

INVITE EVERYBODY

“Oh, just send them an invitation, they deserve it – they won’t really come.”

Assume everyone you invite WILL SHOW UP. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A COURTESY INVITE. This is the current source of my stress – SO many people I was told to invite because they ‘deserve’ it are now coming. The added cost – not to mention the fact that I’m freaking out over the size of the space – is so, so frustrating.

WEDDING COLORS SHOULD BE YOUR PRIORITY

“You need to choose your colors first and the rest will fall into place.”

Lol what? No! Venue, guest list , date… So many more important choices to be made than colors.

DIY EVERYTHING

“Save money on your invitations by making them yourself.” “Ask a friend to take photos instead of hiring a photographer.” – Same person who keeps trying to give me horrible advice.

DON’T MAKE IT FANCY

“It doesn’t need to be so fancy.” OR how about its my wedding and my money and it’ll be exactly as fancy as I’d like it to be.
