Is Your Multicultural Wedding Stressing You Out?

Weddings are, duh, stressful. Weddings that unite not only two different people, but two different cultures are maaaybe extra stressful. And weddings with an extra layer of cultural complexity need vendors who are going to make the planning process and the day easier—vendors who ideally understand the nuances of a bicultural wedding.

Which is exactly what we love about New Jersey–based Kyo Morishima Photography. As a person, Kyo is a relaxing and steadying influence—think the calm eye in the middle of the wedding day storm. Kyo and his wife and business partner Janna, are also a bicultural couple—Kyo is Japanese and grew up outside Osaka, and Janna is American and spent part of her childhood in Europe. As such, they are pros at working abroad and with couples from different cultures (plus Kyo is fluent in Japanese and Janna is fluent in German).

And as a photographer, Kyo is an absolute artist who creates impeccable and timeless wedding photos. Kyo started his photography career back..

As such, they are pros at working abroad and with couples from different cultures (plus Kyo is fluent in Japanese and Janna is fluent in German).

And as a photographer, Kyo is an absolute artist who creates impeccable and timeless wedding photos. Kyo started his photography career back when you had to develop pictures in a darkroom (and he cut his teeth on the photography biz as an assistant for photographic legends like Mary Ellen Mark and Deborah Turbeville), so no trendy filters you’ll live to regret here.

We are so excited that they are expanding their services beyond the New York City metro area, with NYC-area rates starting at just $2,600, and two new packages with all travel included throughout the U.S. ($4,350) and the world ($5,100).

Couples often tell Kyo that “we were really drawn to you because your pictures are so HAPPY. You capture people looking completely natural and so joyful and that’s exactly what we want for our wedding,” and we couldn’t think of a better example than Yuu and Phil:Bride getting readyBride and groom in Japanese wedding outfits, with older relativesBride and groom in Western wedding outfits, dancing

Kyo Morishima Photography also excels at capturing those little things that make the story of your wedding and love unique, like a putting rings in a hummingbird’s nest because of the importance of birds in a couple’s lives (they now run a Costa Rican eco-tour company specializing in birding):

Kyo Morishima Photography‘s rates starts at $2,600, which includes 6 hours of photography, for events within 60 miles of NYC.

They have two special destination wedding packages:

  • Collection I: This package is $4,350 and includes 8 hours of wedding day photography and one additional 2-hour photo shoot (rehearsal dinner, day-after portrait shoot, or “trash the dress” session), as well as travel within the Continental U.S. or Canada.
  • Collection II: This package is $5,100 and includes 8 hours of wedding day photography and one additional 2-hour photo shoot. All travel fees are included to anywhere in the world (Europe, Central America, Asia, South America, Hawaii, etc.).

All packages include careful editing and color correction of all individual photographs, a password-protected online gallery, and delivery of complete edited high-resolution photographs with unlimited printing rights for personal use.

Kyo and Janna are very aware that your wedding is usually the most important, the most complex, and the most expensive event you’ve ever organized, and they want their part of the process to be as simple and helpful as possible. Bonus: they get how trying to have a multicultural wedding can be extra stressful, and they don’t judge you for it!

They are always available to communicate with clients and do as much as they can to make sure everyone is all on the same page—their goal is to make the photography utterly stress-free, and they genuinely adore that their job brings them in touch with such a diverse group of people and enables them to share such an important turning point in their lives. They have been working with APW readers since 2015, and have been deeply touched by y’all’s creativity, sense of humor, and love, as they told us it’s precisely those things that they try to capture with their photography!

As one APW reader told us:

Kyo did an amazing job photographing our wedding. His arts background showed in the beautiful pictures he took that really captured the feel of the wedding. Kyo was unobtrusive yet somehow captured every moment, and he also helped us stick to our timelines by gently asking us if we wanted to stick to the timeline we’d set or do something else. I cannot recommend them strongly enough.
