Average Base Cost: $31,000

Our average base cost for a Casa Romantica wedding is calculated by figuring a 125-person guest list for a Saturday ceremony/reception in May using a food/beverage cost of $150/pp plus associated fees. Entertainment, flowers, furniture, additional decorations and rentals, transportation, and photography are NOT included. Price is rounded up to the nearest thousand. Gratuity and sales tax is included.

How it breaks down:

Facility Rental Fee:

May-October: (150 Max Capacity) Saturdays $8,000; Fridays & Sundays $7,000

November-April: (110 Max Capacity) Saturdays $7,000; Fridays & Sundays $6,000

What’s Included: The site fee will include the private use of the Casa Romantica estate home and gardens for the contracted time period, cleaning fees, and a Casa Romantica Site Supervisor to maintain and tend to the facility needs throughout the event. It also includes a President’s Circle Membership which is valid for one year ($1,000 value).

Extras: All rental items (such as tables and chairs) have to be rented via their exclusive rental company, Signature Party Rentals.

Food and Beverage: All food and alcohol must be provided by a company from Casa Romantica’s Exclusive Vendor List.The venue manager gave a very simple formula for calculating catering costs for Casa Romantica and other comparable venues, which is just helpful in general:

Now, of course, you can expect for this number to increase dramatically based on the catering options you choose (top shelf liquor, # of appetizers, desserts, types of entrees served, etc.) However, given the prices I’ve looked at around this area, it’s a little on the low side. You can definitely do it at that price if you do everything at a minimum, but if you’re looking to go a level or two above basic for rentals and food, for 125 people I think you can reasonably expect your catering and rental costs to be around $20,ooo, including premium bar, seated meal options, and a dessert bar. The venue requires that you use one of their approved caterers, such as Iva Lee’s. Go to their website to get an overview of their menus.

Other Vendors: Valet, rentals, caterer, event planner/ coordinator, and florist must be selected from Casa Romantica’s Exclusive Vendor List. You may select all other vendors, however the venue does have a Preferred Vendors List as well. You can read more about their vendors here.

More Stats:

Space Type: Inside and Outside.

Size: Up to 150 guests outside. Inside is limited to 110 people.

Bridal Suite: There is a bride’s room and a groom’s room, each with a private restroom, vanity area, sitting areas, and are fully air-conditioned. The wedding party may arrive at 2:00 P.M.

Parking: For events that exceed fifty (50) guests, valet service is required. The venue works with one specific company, Best Valet, and they charge an average of $593 (if your event starts at 5 and ends at 10, you’d need them from 4-10, with a price of $19.75/hr)

How Will Grandma Get There? The closest International Airport would be the John Wayne Airport, which is about 30 minutes away from the venue. There are several smaller boutique hotels (like the Sea Horse Resort) that are less than a 10-minute walk to the venue, as well as 2-3 star hotels such as the Best Western. To get a good idea of hotel options, check out this Trip Advisor link. The 5-star Monarch Beach Resort is the nicest option and is about 20 minutes away (and offers Casa Romantica couples a special rate). Because guests will most likely be staying at multiple locations, they can rent cars and drive themselves (or Uber), or you can provide a shuttle service to get guests to and from their hotels from services such as Metropolitan Shuttle. You can expect to spend between $1,000-$1,200 for the five-hour minimum, depending on the area. Additional hours run from $135-$175, not including gratuity.

Party On! Due to a city noise ordinance, all events must end by 10 p.m.

The Report:

The Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens was built by politician and San Clemente founder Ole Hanson as his home. The Spanish Colonial Revival State, which sits on a bluff overlooking the San Clemente Pier, is on the list of National Registry of Historic Places.

This venue is breathtakingly gorgeous. I have a soft spot for spanish architecture, and these grounds seem to capture everything beautiful about the style. The only negative is that you have to be out by 10 p.m., which seems crazy to me considering how much you’re paying. They should at least let you stay until 1 if you wanted! Most of the time you end up paying a lot more for historical places than you would somewhere else because their insurance fees are so high. While the venue fee is definitely hefty, think of all the money you can save on decor with the ocean as your backdrop!
